Anna Sergeyevna Kournikova was born on June 7, 1981 in Moscow, Soviet Union. From an early age Kournikova was trained at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. She made headlines with her tournament wins as a young teenager and again when she reached the fourth round of the 1996 U.S. Open, before losing to Steffi Graf. Playing with her doubles partner Martina Hingis, the pair won two Grand Slam doubles titles in 1999 and 2002. She had injuries to her back, which have prevented her from playing competitively since 2003. Despite her numerous tennis titles and awards, Kournikova is perhaps best know for her striking beauty and she was named as one of “People” magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2003. Kournikova has been on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition in 2004 as well as in and on the cover of other magazines.
