Beyonce Knowles

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas. By age seven, young Beyoncé was attending dance school and singing as a soloist in her church choir. She went to many local competitions winning over 30 singing and dancing competitions in her youth. Teaming up with her cousin Kelly Rowland and another singer Latvia Roberson, she formed a trio that ultimately led to the formation of Destiny’s Child. Making their debut in 1990, the group went through changes, controversy and huge success during their first decade together. Destiny’s Child had sold over 33 million albums worldwide by 2002 and earned numerous Grammys and other awards. Beyoncé became the first African-American woman to win the ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award and has gone on to a very successful solo career.

She has achieved success on the big-screen as well, starring as Foxxy Cleopatra opposite Mike Meyers in “Austin Powers in Goldmember.” Knowles has had other notable roles in movies: opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. in “The Fighting Temptations,” with Steve Martin in “The Pink Panther” and most recently in the film “Dreamgirls.”
