Eddie Murphy is a Golden Globe-winning and Grammy Award-winning actor and comedian. Murphy at the age of 19 joined the regular cast of
Saturday Night Live television show on NBC and became one of the most popular cast members with his parody of Buckwheat from the
Little Rascals and an inner-city black parody of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood known as
Mister Robinson's Neighborhood. Murphy left the show midway through the 1983–1984 season, appearing in filmed sketches for the remainder of that season and went on to become one of the most successful comic film stars of the 1980s with films that have grossed more than $1 billion including
48 Hrs,
Trading Places, and his signature role as Axel Foley in the 1984 comedy
Beverly Hills Cop. Murphy's popularity dropped in the early 1990s as a result of a string of movie flops such as
Beverly Hills Cop III,
Vampire in Brooklyn and
The Distinguished Gentleman.
Murphy staged a box office comeback in the mid-1990s with a career makeover that included a string of family-friendly movies including The Nutty Professor, Dr. Dolittle, Daddy Day Care, and Shrek.
In his personal life, Murphy was once-married to Nicole Mitchell and have five children together.
