Democrat.
A Princeton graduate, Spitzer served as US Attorney General from January 1999 - December 2006. He was well known on Wall Street as for his dedication to stopping corporate white collar crime as well as securities and internet fraud.
In 2006, Spitzer was elected governor of New York. No stranger to controversy, he caused quite a stir by proposing a bill to legalize same sex marriage in New York in addition to issuing an executive order allowing illegal aliens to obtain New York state driver's licenses.
Once a golden child for the democratic party who strove to bring morals and ethics back into politics, He most recently made headlines with his involvement in a Prostution Ring under federal investigation.
In March 2008, he stepped down as New York state governor, succeeded by Lt. Governor David Patterson. Patterson became the first Black governor of New York and the first legally blind governor in the United States.
