Elle MacPherson was born on 29 March 1965 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Her birth name was Eleanor Gow but to further enhance her career this was changed to what it is now.
She was "discovered" at the age of eighteen while vacationing in Aspen, Colorado, and was promptly signed to the Click modeling agency. Elle studied pre-law in Sydney but hen pursued a career in modeling which is a decision that she has never looked back.
Elle MacPherson is perhaps best known for her record of four covers of Sport's Illustrated's highly anticipated Annual Swimsuit issue. Confirming her as one of the most recognizable super models of the world, Time magazine ran a cover story on her career entitled ''The Big Elle'' in 1986. MacPherson was selected People Magazine's as one of "50 Most Beautiful People" in 1995.
Transcending the traditional career path of the super model, in 1989 Elle established her own company, Elle Macpherson Intimates based in Australia. As Chairperson, she has piloted the company to become the country's most recognized lingerie brand name. In addition to making her mark in the world of business, Elle has also tried acting as a career.
Macpherson is a brest cancer awareness advocate who launched the inaugural campaign Fashion Targets Breast Cancer in Dublin in 2005. Designer T-shirts were sold to raise money for Action Breast Cancer, a project of the Irish Cancer Society, and Europa Donna Ireland.
