Kid Rock was born under the name Robert James RItchie in Romeo, Michigan. By age 11, he joined his first band, "THe Furious Funkers", and in High School he DJ'd parties in exchange for beer.
He earned his moniker after he joined Bo Wisdom of Groovetime Productions, when Bo dubbed him Kid Rock after hearing the fans exclaim that they liked to watch "that white kid rock". After joining and then being dropped from "The Beast Crew", Rock went on to release "Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast" in 1990.
He is scheduled to release a new album on October 9, 2007
