Nicholas Scott Lachey was born on November 9, 1973, and rose to fame in the late 1990s as writer and joint lead-vocalist along with the founding member Jeff Timmons in the boy band, 98 degrees. He grew up in Ohio and attended Cincinnati's well-regarded public School for Creative and Performing Arts. After graduation, he began studying at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio majoring in sports medicine. He also became a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. While there, he realized his dream of becoming a singer and left for Los Angeles.
Lachey dated fellow pop star Jessica Simpson for four years and married in October 2002. Under Jessica's father's advice, the two starred in the reality TV show Newlyweds in an effort to jump-start their careers. The series proved to be a success, running for three seasons until the couple's split in 2005. Since his divorce in June 2006, Lachey has been dating TV personality Vanessa Minnillo and the two have recently moved in together, sharing Nick's home in Bel Air as well as purchasing a condo in Manhattan.
On November 11, 2003, Nick's solo debut album, SoulO, was released. Despite being released during the heyday of Newlyweds, the album was a commercial failure and recieved poor reviews. His next solo album, What's Left of Me, was released in 2006. The album is rumored to be about Lachey's divorce with Jessica Simpson and the single ("What's Left of Me") reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 quickly after it was released. In the single's music video, Vanessa Minnillo played Simpson's role, showcasing the last days of the couple's relationship.
