Uma Thurman

Uma Karuna Thurman was born on April 29, 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mother was a Swedish fashion model and her father was a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies at Columbia University. Due to her father’s work the family spent extended amounts of time in India, where the Dalai Lama would sometimes visit them. While attending the Northfield Mount Hermon boarding school Thurman was excelling in acting and was noticed by talent scouts.

Thurman started her professional career in acting as a teenager in “Kiss Daddy Goodnight” and “Dangerous Liasons.” Playing an ingénue in the early part of her career, Thurman went on to star as the leading lady with a bit of an edge in such films as “Gattaca,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Kill Bill: Vol.1,” “Kill Bill: Vol.2,” “Paycheck” and “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.” Thurman married Ethan Hawke in 1988 and they had a son and daughter together before divorcing in 2004.
