Zac Efron

Zachary David Alexander Efron was born in San Luis Obispo, California, and later moved to Arroyo Grande. His father, David Efron, is an engineer at a power plant, and his mother, Starla Baskett, is a former secretary who worked at the same power plant as Efron's father. Although of Jewish ancestry, Efron was raised in an agnostic household, and describes his childhood as normal, in a middle class family.

Efron was recommended to an agent in Los Angeles by his drama teacher, Robyn Metchik, and In 2002, began to appear in guest roles on several television series, including Firefly, ER, and The Guardian. He portrayed Cameron Bale on the now-cancelled WB series Summerland. He achieved stardom in 2006 with his role as Troy Bolton in High School Musical and appears in the sequel as well as High School Musical 3. He was also cast as Link Larkin in a film version of Hairspray in 2006. Efron has been given credits to a number of the songs on the soundtrack of High School Musical and collaborated on a number of releases with Vanessa Hudgens.

Recently Efron was accepted to the University of Southern California, but deferred his enrollment while he works on film projects. He plans to return at some time.
