Will DirecTV Take Moonlight?

I Like It I Don't Like It
After publishing the post about Moonlight being over I got flooded with comments…and after further digging I found a rumor that DirecTV may be considering picking it up. I finally had a confirmation when I followed a link that someone had posted about my site in a Moonlight forum. Here is what they had to say…

We’ve also been contacting DirecTV to see if they would consider partnering with one of these networks - similar to what they did with NBC to bring Friday Night Lights back for another season. Yesterday, we learned that DirecTV has asked for a meeting with Silver Productions.

  • I think Moonlight was the best show on television this season with fantastic chemistry between the actors, a great story line, and superb acting. I certainly hope that someone picks up this wonderful show.

  • T.V. is awash with cookie-cutter dramas, lame comedies, and awful reality programs. Moonlight was something different, with humor, action, and romance. I miss it, and hope someone has the sense to pick it up.

  • Thank you for the info on the DirecTV interest. DirecTV would be very smart to sponsor Moonlight. With their help I am confident a cable outlet such as SCI-FI or TNT will pick up Moonlight.

  • I have contacted DirectTV and voted on Lesser's poll. It would be so wonderful if DirectTV would help us save Moonlight. I am currently a DishNetwork subscriber but would switch in a New York minute if DTV saved Moonlight.

  • I want to thank you so much for that glimmer of hope. I love MOONLIGHT so much that I would follow it to any channel on any planet just to see it picked up! I'm praying that someone has the foresight to see how wonderful this series is and that we'll soon have it back--I will faithfully follow it anywhere! (As will 8 mil. other fans.)

  • Direct TV would be making a really smart move to pick up the wonderful show. We have our fill of crime drama, medical and reality shows. Let us have something different and entertaining. This show had it all and oh let us not forget, Alex O'Loughlin, what more can I say??? Bring us back our Moonlight, Please?

  • Great news! Moonlight is the best new show to hit tv in years! Imagine, a show that isn't your a-typical cop show, or, thank God, not another reality show... but, instead, a show that is fresh, has great actors (and sexy too!), has romance, action, comedy. Someone PLEASE give us back our Moonlight!!!

  • Moonlight was the only reason I own a television, mainly because any other show on television is a reality show (yawn!), ANOTHER drama like 405943039843780 other shows, or some other lame attempt at comedy. Moonlight has a womderful storyline and the writers are fabulous. Not to mention the cast is incredible! I hope they all are able to return to the show when it is brought back. Vampire solidarity! rah rah rah

  • This is the best news fans of Moonlight have had so far. This is a terrific show with really talented actors, clever writing, old-fashioned romance, drama, action, and humor. It deserved another chance and I hope this develops into that second season that we are all hoping for.

  • If I wanted a dose of reality, I would step outside my front door. Instead, after a long, hard week at work, give me my 54" flat screen tv and a dose of Mick St. John anyday....ahhhh now thats entertaiment.

  • Moonlight has fans all over the world. These networks need to wake up to the fact that:

    1. Viewers are older. Young people aren't watching a lot of TV.
    2. Nielsen ratings are OUTDATED.
    3. People are watching TV online and on DVRs/TiVos as well as buying shows online and DVDs
    4. International viewers need to count.

When they realize these things...perhaps we'll get rid of the reality TV and game shows that are overtaking our sets.

Moonlight is a fantastic show that deserves another season or 5.

  • As one of people not included in the "demographic age group", I also feel like executives are not listening to the viewers actually watching and who have more money to buy the advertised products!!Love ML

  • Thank you for this wonderful article! Moonlight is far from being dead. It has only been staked not decapitated. Like Mick said you can't kill a vampire by staking them; it only paralyzes the vampire.

This is good news that DirecTV and Silver Productions. I feel this is a move in a positive direction. Moonlight is a good show. It is different than those cookie-cutter crime drama, reality TV or game shows.

I like Moonlight - not just the vampires - for the fact that it is a FANTASY show mixed with combination of humor and drama!

  • Great news. Hope DirecTV can make it happen.
Moonlight is a great show with really good actors.
It just needs a chance. Alex O'loughlin is the best.
    McDreamy has nothing on McVamp.

  • This gives all Moonlight fans hope. The best show, by far, and they cancel it to put on Swingtown? Really, come on!!! CBS is not listening to it's fans, and has lost many to date.

  • Thank you a million times. oh writer, for seeing what the nincompoops (that's not too abusive is it?) at CBS threw away. Moonlight was the most literate, sophisticated show ever to be presented on television. ANY media outlet that picked it up would be overwhelmed with new subscribers and skyrocketing ratings. The fans have even considered banding together to pay for a second season themselves! Believe me, if we could find a good entertainment lawyer to draw up the contract, at even just $1 per fan they could produce at least a couple more seasons. This isn't just television: Moonlight is mythology, hope, escape, romance -- and jolly good entertainment that can be enjoyed by families together. Thank you for helping our fight! Rally on, Moonlight Warriors!

  • I love Moonlight. Just like Jericho it is another show that has been canceled prematurely. I am so tired of some suit make 7 figures a year telling me what I can and cannot watch on TV. It is time for the actual viewers to stand up and be counted.

  • I’m from Germany and Moonlight has just started yet, but hell I LOVE the show! It’s a real shame, they canceled it!
I want Moonlight back for a second season - no matter what it takes!
