The TV icon opens up!

To children in the 1970s, she was the star of primetime TV's super series, "Wonder Woman," armed with bullet-repelling bracelets and a lasso of truth. Now, Lynda Carter is sitting down with "The Insider" 30 years later to reminisce about her landmark role, and reveal dark secrets about her past.

"The character of Wonder Woman is so friggin' cool," the blue-eyed covergirl says. "I'm going to be 120 and they'll say, 'There's the girl that used to be Wonder Woman.'"

With a Miss USA World pageant title under her belt, she seemed to have it all, but Lynda tells us that she hid a surprising secret: She was an alcoholic.

"I was so good at hiding it too," she says. "I begged God in heaven to help me figure this out."

She sought help at a treatment center near her home in Washington, D.C., and now, the mother of two is almost 10 years sober. Today, Lynda enjoys the sport of rowing and also sings in small clubs. She recently launched a traveling, one-woman cabaret show called "An Intimate Evening with Lynda Carter" in which she can be seen performing around the country.

But you can still see her in her original red, white and blue corset on the DVD collection of the original "Wonder Woman" TV series, released by Warner Bros. Home Video. Watch tonight's "Insider" and visit Wonderland-site.com for the latest on Lynda!

  • Hi Lynda, I hardly think that today someone would look inside you and say yuk.... I think you are a beautiful soul inside and out..... People should watch an HBO series about addiction called "Why Can't They Just Stop." I worked for Catholic Social Services for a time and also have an addicted 39 year old son. It's hard really hard. No one knows until it hits home. God bless you..I have a quote I use. "Hate the cancer that is addiction, not the cancer patient."

  • It must take incredible strength to come out and admit to the world that you're human and you've made mistakes. She is Wonder Woman in every aspect. I applaud her for her hard work and diligence in fighting this horrible disease that not only destroys the alcoholic but their families as well. You are a beautiful, intelligent roll model Linda. Hold your head high you have nothing to be ashamed of.

  • Get your facts straight. Wonder Woman was NEVER a Saturday morning children's show.....it aired during the week in prime time! Check your facts.

  • Dearest Lynda,

Being an chronic alcoholic I know how hard it is to get help to get and stay recovered from this seemingly hopeless disease.

I can do nothing but aplaude you for you day to day work dealing with alcoholism.

Remember to share the solutions to others who still suffer. Some of alcoholics can't get into programs for this disease and get recovered.

Take it one day at a time and take it easy.

    Respectfully

    Jeannie L. C.
