It really didn't make sense at the time, given that a Westwood is chosen as the bridal gown worn by SJP in the big wedding scene, but what kind of publication just makes up first-hand quotes? Not to say stories out there are not fabricated, but they are so by a 'source close to' the subject or by a 'friend' - i.e. uncorroborated second-hand crap.
Now British Vogue is reporting that the quote made by Westwood was indeed not a quote. Westwood told the magazine:
"I stayed throughout the film, and was overjoyed to see Sarah Jessica in her beautiful wedding dress; furthermore, I have been delighted to notice recently how well young girls are dressing, and that they have clearly been inspired by the film."
Hmm. Westwood is normally not one to appease the masses, so I am inclined to believe her on this one - but why then hasn't the quote been subject to defamation claims?
Well, either way, it doesn't make me love Westwood any less. And I doubt her fans will be overly sensitive to this one either.
