Helen Mirren is one of the sexiest women on the planet. This is just a fact, and there's nothing newsworthy there.
What is newsworthy -- at least, for a blog called Frivolous People -- is Dame Helen in a bikini. Look at this! She even looks fab on just a casual day out at the beach. How does she do that?
Let's just stop to point out here that this photo is not airbrushed. She didn't starve herself to look this shapely and, frankly, foxy as hell -- she did it all by hitting the gym to mold a strong body.
She's in a bikini, yep, but it's simple, unflashy, and makes the most of her natural curves. She's not sexing up her swim suit with ridiculous stilettos, she's just comfortable in her skin. And she looks fantastic.
Did we mention she's in her 60s? So how does she manage to make striplings in butt floss fade into total insignificance beside the leonine magnificence which is Dame Helen?
It doesn't even matter what she wears, because her sex appeal has nothing to do with what's on her back.
It might be confidence, or intelligence, or joie de vivre, or humor, or dignity, knowing her own mind or just being comfortable in her own skin. Whatever it is, ya just can't fake it.
You just can't bottle it, either. Alas.

And you're right - she does have a great bod, of course, but her sex appeal is rooted in something else that is hard to define. Like you said, it's part confidence, intelligence, humor etc. And, I dunno, there's just something ABOUT her.
Like a gazillion other women, I want to be Helen Mirren when "grow up".
