Is Avril the #1 Girlfriend?

A few weeks ago, some of the most dedicated Avril fans (!?!) decided that they wanted to the music video for her song “Girlfriend” the most watched YouTube video ever. I guess pleading to the public wasn’t enough, so they set up websites such as www.avrilbandaids.com/youtubeviewer.html, that automatically refresh the tune every fifteen seconds. They’re goal was to surpass “The evolution of dance” and make Avril the queen of the internet.

The fan groups admin posted this message on the fan site “”Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend music video is less than one million views away from becoming the most watched video of all time on YouTube.  So what we’re attempting won’t be easy but … Bahh who am I kidding? Of course it will be easy because we have a secret weapon.”

The group of fans call themselves the “Avril Bandaids” which makes little to no sense. Really, it isn’t even clever. It’s just her name with the word “Bandaids” after it. At least give me an alliteration like “Avril’s Anvils” or “Lavignes’ Legumes”.

Well the Bandaids have gone and done it. Now people from Avril’s team are reportedly saying they are owed two million from YouTube because it has been “watched” over 92 million times. Youtube has a deal in place that pays artists based on their songs being used in fans online videos, and when their own videos are viewed. Her managers say because “Girlfriend” was viewed so many times they deserve their fair share of the advertising revenue.

Does she deserve it?

If anything deserves the top spot, its “Dramatic Look Gopher”
