The Rebirth of the Situation Comedy

I Like It I Don't Like It
So I ended up watching some network television in the main lodge on our final night at tennis camp and on my brother's recommendation I sat through "The Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother." Now pardon me if I'm getting to the party late, but how great are these two shows? I've always loved Johnny Galecki from "Roseanne," and the chemistry he has with fellow physics geek Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and their bombshell neighbor, Penny (Kaley Cuoco), is endearingly delightful in this hilarious if somewhat formulaic sitcom. And despite all the hype it got when Britney guest-starred, I still had no idea that the even more wonderful "How I Met Your Mother" was such a well-written and well-acted little gem, or that it stars so many great people besides Neil Patrick Harris. The whole cast is great, including Jason Segel (who was so sweet in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"), Alyson Hannigan (Miss Band Camp herself), Josh Radnor (loved him on the short-lived "Miss Match"), and Cobie Smulders, whose former Canadian pop star character, Robin Scherbatsky, aka Robin Sparkles, is responsible for one of the greatest parody songs/videos of all time, "Let's Go to the Mall" (see video above!). Some really great stuff that has me believing in scripted television again for the first time in years.
