I Like It I Don't Like It
Soon-to-be father Clay Aiken recently spent time in Kenya and Somalia in a bid to improve education for children in those violence-torn nations, the pop star writes in an Internet blog.

One trip took place in early July, when Aiken visited Eldoret, in Kenya’s Rift Valley, where some of the worst violence took place following the country's elections in early 2008, leaving thousands of children homeless.

"Everywhere we went, there were the charcoaled remains of homes, schools and shops. We drove for hours and everywhere we went, we saw people trying to get their lives restored," Clay writes on a blog on the UNICEF website.

"Getting children back to school is vital for their protection, and helps build a sense of normalcy in their lives. The re-establishment of schools in the most difficult circumstances is a testament to the commitment of UNICEF and to Kenyans," Clay writes.

As "The Insider" confirmed last May, the former "American Idol" finalist himself is an expectant father after artificially inseminating Jaymes Foster, the sister of legendary music producer David Foster. The baby is expected in August.

  • It is so disheartening to see all the devastation in Kenya. It also shows the determination of the children, to get an education, when they show up in shells that used to be schools and sit on rocks and bricks, just to attend school.

We are so thankful that we have people like Clay Aiken as a Unicef Ambassador and all the other Unicef workers to help to give them a better environment to live in. I was happy to donate to this cause.

  • Intentionally having a baby out of wedlock is never a good idea. I'm still hoping this is just a bad rumor.

    • It may be just that; however, the whole point of the story has nothing to do with rumors! Please focus on the important stuff!

  • Clay is truly concerned about the children of the world who are without water, hungry and under-educated. His blogs and trips allow us to learn about these horrible situations and do what we can to help.

  • I don't understand the few negative votes. What's not to like about someone risking his life to help children desperately in need, and to call attention to this deplorable situation?

  • UNICEF Ambassador Clay Aiken is a man who walks the talk that's plain to see. I have to admire a Star like him who is driven to give back to the world. I salute you Clay, and all the angels at UNICEF.

  • What do you expect from Clay Aiken except that 5 years ago, he made a statement that given the opportunity, he will use his celebrity status to make a difference one way or the other! Indeed, that's what he is doing!

  • Still stating a rumor as fact. Clay Aiken nor Jaymes Foster ever confirmed Clay was going to be a father, and the only so called source said he was misquoted, and BJ Cook(Jaymes ex sister Inlaw) said the rumor was untrue.

  • I'm glad to hear of his trips to Kenya and Somalia, but don't understand why it's prefaced as having something to do with impending fatherhood. He's been a UNICEF ambassador since 2004.

  • What the Insider calls "confirming" a story is to use another Tabloid as a source...To use the UNICEF story to sneak in more UNCONNFIRMED gossip is about as low as you can get on the morality scale. How do the people that work for these gossip rags, and entertainment shows look at themselves in the mirror everyday and be happy with what they see looking back. They are the perfect example of a human being selling their soles for money...they lack a moral compass and the way this article was written just proves how low they will go. The only truth to this article is Clay Aiken cares enough about others to go to another country that many are no longer brave enough to enter and try to make a positive difference in the world. The people who have to add unconfirmed gossip are examples of cowards in their lowest form.

  • Was it even necessary to mention the 'daddy' portion when NOTHING was confirmed by either sides??

The Unicef mission information was enough. The rumor portion is needless and rude.

  • Clay has said, many times, that the horrors going on in the world respecting children is way more important than anything that may or MAY NOT being going on in his life. He believes the children of the world deserve much more notice in the press.

Unfortunately, mags like People insist on dragging in rumors just to get some attention for themselves. I totally agree with the posts of 1 hour ago and 11 minutes ago. Stick to the UNICEF story which really is true!!

    • Oops, I meant to say the Insider is a deplorable rag, not People Magazine. (At least People is only reporting the UNICEF) story and not trying to garner attention for themselves such as this article by Insider.

  • Clay loves to entertain! But children and those in need are his heart!!

Clay just crossed dangerous ground to bring attention to a place that has been forgotten !! Thank you unicef for choosing this man and others to show us just how heart wrenching the situation is over there!!!

  • Clay Aiken has been a great UNICEF Ambassador and will be a great father as well. To those that said such nice things about Clay - will you take them back after he becomes a father in August? Are your nice words only a contingency? Wedlock does not guarantee a loving stable home for a baby, My best wishes to the expectant parents!
