"Stranger than Fiction" - Review

I Like It I Don't Like It
What do you get when you cross Memento with Monty Python and the Holy Grail? You guessed it, "Stranger than Fiction," has a plot right out of the Twilight Zone with a slightly macabre, British, sense of humor! Will Ferrell (as Harold Crick) is a brilliant and dedicated IRS agent, who lives a very methodical life. He's jolted out of the mundane when he wakes up, one day, to find his life being narrated. It's like someone is reading out his thoughts and actions with every passing second.

Crick treats his twisted predicament just as he does everything else in his life, without emotion. Unfortunately, however, things will only get worse. It turns out that the narrator is none other than author Karen Eiffel (played by Emma Thompson) who is trying desperately to overcome writer's block and complete yet another novel. Her words are literally, the story of Crick's life.

Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Queen Latifah also star in this sadistically funny movie. If you like Will Ferrell, he will deliver as always! From the morbidity of Harold Crick's situation, to the clever juxtaposition of the Rain Man himself, this movie will elicit MANY laughs from those of us who have ever felt like punchlines to the endless joke that is life!

  • From the trailer I expected the movie to be much funnier. Will Ferrell acted well, as this role was different from what he has done previously.
