Pictures: What happened to Lauryn Hill?
Remember when the Fugees almost saved hip-hop?  

Lauryn, Wyclef, and Pras were just what the world needed.  Then they split up.  "Just to do some solo stuff", and more than 10 years later we're still waiting for that magic sound to return.

 

Meanwhile, Lauryn comes undone -- publicly.  Her June 27th Oakland performance was by all accounts terrible.  Coming on stage almost 90 minutes after the opening act had finished their set, she disappointed.  Over 100 people left the concert, many demanding their money back.

 

The reviews of the music are all the same: disjoint, poorly mixed, mumbled lyrics.  But it's the painfully public searching for her self that is most disturbing.  Regardless of the music and the contracts (and the Fugees never doing a reunion tour), I just hope she finds herself; maybe the music can help.

  • I just saw her in Nice France and she blew chunks . . . she was an hour late, plus her band then played for another 15 min jamming before she even made it. then she came out in some crack dress with too much make-up and apparently a strained voice. . . just sad

If in fact Lauryn Hill suffers from a mental illness, her being allegedly Haitian has nothing to do with it. I have been a born-again Christian for 22 years and NEVER have I practiced voodoo. I know nothing of my Haitian ancestry, but I cling to my roots like white on rice. For the record, Rohan Marley is Jamaican. Not all Jamaicans and people of color from islands get high on drugs. You are ignorant, stupid and insentive. Get some knowledge you fool.

  • lauren hill is not haitian..........wyclef is and the above poster is probably getting at the assumption that he obeahed her. not all jamaicans smoke weed.......true.......but true most Rastafari do......which Rohan is......it is held as a holy herb used 4 upliftment.......not slacking! Dont be offended if you r haitian.....it is a fact that some (not all) haitian ppl believe and practice voodoo rituals.

  • Lauren Hill is not only one of the most incredible female artist of our time, she is a rarity because of her courage. Her work is raw and genuine. The fact that she performs from her soul--exposed and vulnerable for the world to witnes is a breath of fresh air.She is an artist that inspires through her words. Her lyrics invite us to feel the turmoil, the desparation and not only the magic of living but the strength of hope for and prayer.
