MTV returns to its roots and celebrates the videos and music that put it on the map with tonight's Video Music Awards. It's bound to be a showdown of the hottest acts in music today – but who will win the coveted spaceman trophy?
Best New Artist – In the running are Lily Allen, Gym Class Heroes, Peter Bjorn & John, Carrie Underwood, and Amy Winehouse. Our money's on Carrie Underwood, of course. With that American Idol fan base and all those country music fans out there, she could win big. The dark horse candidate is the train wreck, er…we mean Amy Winehouse. She may be a disaster these days, but the girl can SING.
Best Group – The competors are Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes (again!), Linkin Park, Maroon 5, and The White Stripes. While we love Jack and Meg, we know the power that Adam Levine has over young hearts everywhere. (Not that Pete and his kohl-rimmed peepers aren't cute, too.) Predicted winner: we're hoping for anyone but Linkin Park.
Video of the Year – In contention for the big prize are Beyonce's "Irreplaceable", Justice's "D.A.N.C.E.", Rihanna & Jay-Z's "Umbrella", Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around…Comes Around", Kanye West's "Stronger", and Amy Winehouse's "Rehab". Let's just say we're not betting on Justice, the pop group we've never even heard of. Our pick: we think a trophy just might be coming around to Justin Timberlake for his sexy video.
Who do you think is going to take home a prize at tonight's VMAs?
