The winner is selected by the magazine's editors, writers and contributors. The standards that were set by D'Agostino were that the winner "must exude individuality and be current to pop culture".
The editor Ryan D'Agostino explained: "Charlize combines unbelievable beauty with a smart mind and this attude like she's almost one of the guys. All of that adds up to sexy".
Charlize celebrated the honor by posing for a steamy photoshoot in the magazine.
She admits her looks have not always helped her make good career choices; by stating: "'Reindeer Games', that was a bad, bad, bad movie. But even though the movie might suck, I got to work with John Frankenheimer. I wasn't lying to myself, that's why I did it. I mean, he directed 'The Manchurian Candidate', which is like the movie of all movies.
Charlize also voiced her concerns about US President George W. Bush (who doesn't?).
Excellent choice for Esquire and hope this peak means for Charlize the first in many to follow.
Enjoy!

wow, that's a very strange choice.
-
agreed, I dunno about that.
-
She's plenty hot, but yeah - Reindeer Games??!! I'd forgotten about that movie and gladly so.
-
I actually thought Scarlett was a better choice.
-
Reindeer Games isn't the only sucky movie she's been in. Aeon Flux was just awful.

their criteria include "exude individuality" but I don't find much unique about Charlize - or their pick a couple of years ago, jessica biel.

She is beautiful, can't say nothing about that, but being the sexiest is too much of all, it's a little too much.
-
repeated words ..."too much"...sorry.
-
I LOVE HER MORE WHEN SHE LOOKES SEXY.
