Or Cher. Or Wonder Woman. Or Anastacia. Or--dammit, it's Dumbledore! According to J.K., he's gayer than My Little Pony.
(Okay, truthfully, we have no idea who Dumbledore actually is, never having read the books, but for people who have...surprise!)
J.K. was in the middle of a question-and-answer session at Carnegie Hall (NYC), when a 19-year-old student asked about the headmaster of Hogwarts School: "Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?"
J.K. said: "My truthful answer to you...I always thought of Dumbledore as gay." The audience reportedly went dead quiet, then burst into a round of applause.
The author then continued, "Dumbledore (image) fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was...it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent, but he met someone as brilliant as he was and, rather like Bellatrix, he was very drawn to this brilliant person and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that's how I always saw Dumbledore."
She said she'd blatantly pointed out the fact before, in last-minute notes she scribbled on a script for the sixth Harry Potter film: "...I was in a script read-through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying, 'I knew a girl once, whose hair...' I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, 'Dumbledore's gay!'"
Startled by the wild response to her casual revelation, the amused J.K. quipped: "Just imagine the fan fiction now."
