The latest rumors to come from the world of American Idol don’t involve scandal and controversy. At least not yet.
Instead, they revolve around ‘Nirvana Night’ and the introduction of Courtney Love, the widow of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, as a judge.
While Love claims she was approached to replace Paula Abdul on the highly acclaimed television show, those in charge maintain that there is no plan to get rid of Abdul. Rather, sources have come forward alleging that they were trying to get Love on the show because she owns the rights to Cobain’s work.
Their plan was apparently to convince her to let them use the rights by inviting her to be a guest on the show for ‘Nirvana Night’.
While that might have worked as a ploy to get the rights to the song, we’re not sure this was thought out very well. Using Love as a guest judge just to get rights to songs seems to be effective in the short run, but not very likely to be successful when it comes to the follow through.
If Courtney Love was a guest judge on the show, we would have to listen to her.
And we think her opinion of the singers would likely make Simon sound like…well, Paula.
And wouldn’t it be difficult to understand what her impression of a performer was with every other word censored?
