Fighting Farrah Fawcett is smiling again after tumour treatment

The pain and exhaustion from her harsh cancer treatments are etched on to her once radiant face.

But nothing can take the shine off Farrah Fawcett's attude.

With her trademark blonde waves flicking out from beneath a woolly hat, she told reporters she is "doing well" after being diagnosed with intestinal cancer last year.

Doctors discovered a tumour while doing a routine check-up. Since then, the Charlie's Angels star has had surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and a course of holistic treatments from a German clinic.

Now, in a rare interview held outside the St John Medical Centre in California this week, Miss Fawcett, 60, said: "I'm doing well but you can never say for sure. Everybody is praying for me and that I have to get well."

The blisters visible around her mouth are thought to be coldsores. Cancer treatments weaken the immune system, making patients vulnerable to such sores.

An onlooker said: "She still looked frail as she made her way out of the clinic. But it seemed as though the old Farrah was coming back. She was smiling and speaking quite openly about her health."

When news broke of Miss Fawcett's ill-health, her former lover Ryan O'Neal rushed to her side. But when asked this week if he was still supporting her, she replied: "Yes, but we're all kind of getting on with our own lives which I think is the best for everyone."

Miss Fawcett was a regular cast member on Charlie's Angels from 1976-77, and had a career revival in the 90s on Ally McBeal.

  • There are some things you just can't be cynical of and cancer treatment is one of them. Best of luck Farrah!

  • Cancer is not allowed to be cured in the U.S. There are many simple, inexpensive proven cures that do not require chemo, radiation or surgery. Cancer is a cash cow. Why find a cure that will kill it?

  • Farrah, you should run to my doctor. I personally know 2 patients that have gone into remission in the last week. Dr. June Meymand Dallas, Tx. does specific testing to find out exactly what chemo will work on you, if it builds up resistance, what will break it down, what nutrients you need to be taking and what specific foods will assist and maintain your health. If you don't do something different it could mean your life. All the patients I have met here have been to MD Anderson Cancer Clinic, German doctors/clinics, Austria, etc. and have been told after months or years of treatment that they had 3-6 months left to live! Dr. June does her work with such professionalism, knowledge, heart felt care and humor. Many times I see her in the kitchen cooking a meal for all of us so we can see what to eat that is delicious and good for us. I know she is one in a million. I have met several celebrity/rich people here and it is business as usual. We are all held in the highest respect. She works with a team of specialists in Dallas, Tx. I know you must get alot of advice, I know I did. But this one could probably save your life. DM Texas
