Finishing a close second in that demographic was 9 p.m. time slot competitor, ABC’s “Private Practice,” which drew a somewhat more modest audience in total viewers (11.5 million). ABC ranked second for the night, leading the 8 p.m. hour with “Pushing Daisies” (8.9 million) but finishing second at 10 with “Dirty Sexy Money” (8.1 million). CBS’s “CSI: NY” dominated the 10 p.m. hour as usual with 13 million viewers.
Fox ranked third overall with above average ratings for “Back to You” (7.3 million) and “‘Til Death” (7.4 million). The new sitcoms trailed just behind the second most watched show in the 8 p.m. hour, CBS’s “Kid Nation” (7.5 million). At 9, Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares” (7 million) improved to third place ahead of NBC’s “Bionic Woman” (6.3 million), which saw its lowest ratings to date.
NBC was fourth for the night. Although its 10 p.m. offering, “Life” (6.9 million) managed to improve on the anemic ratings for “Bionic Women,” NBC’s “Phenomenon” (6.2 million) ranked last in the 8 p.m. hour among the four major broadcast networks.
Finally, the CW network matched its best Wednesday of the season in its target demographic of young adults 18 to 34. The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” led the 8 p.m. hour overall in that demographic while drawing 5.3 million total viewers. At 9, the CW’s “Gossip Girl” earned its largest audience (2.9 million) since its September premiere.
