I Like It I Don't Like It
Never having been pregnant or given birth ourselves, we probably shouldn't talk, but this story from blogger Celebrity Body Gossip  (aka Dotspotter SkinnyCelebNews) makes us go "hmmmmmmmm."

Christina Aguilera is expected to deliver her first baby on January 10. She has scheduled a cesarean section, as she has opted to avoid the pain of a natural child birth.

The singer - who is expecting her first child with her music executive husband Jordan Bratman - has allegedly decided to go for the operation like many celebrities before her because she is too posh to push.

A source close to the star told The New York Post: “Christina has a C-section scheduled for January 10 but she might need to push the date of the delivery up.” [Source]

  • "opted to avoid the pain" - isn't that what drugs are for?

  • I would feel like missing out on the whole experience of giving birth to my child if I decided right away to get a C-section. But of off cause if there is complications and you NEED a C-section then there is nothing to do about that.

  • C-Sections hurt a lot worse than natural...plus the recovery time is longer! Not to mention the huge scar you have after it is all healed. It is crazy. C-sections are meant for those with medical issues, not those who want the easy way out (cause it isn't one). I've known people who have bled to death after having a c-section! Your risks are so much higher.

  • The cesarean section rate remains at an alarmingly higher rate of 31% nationally than the 15% average recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO estimates that half (50%) of all cesarean sections performed in the United States are unnecessary.

If people begin to believe that this is an 'EASY" way out, the rates will soar and the risks will rise.

  • I am sure she is having the C-section so she can have a tummy tuck at the same time. Most woman who chose this option do it because of their vanity. Once the baby is born the plastic surgeon steps in and performs the tummy tuck, cutting away all that excess skin and stretch marks. Pretty smart of her, but I wouldn't expect anything less from the most vaine woman alive. And my god woman, scrape some of that make up off you look like a fucking clown!!!

  • This is not right. She needs to own up to having a kid. Why would you want the baby to be cut out if it is not needed. What a sissy!!!!!

  • Cut her some slack people. I know I would much rather have a C-Section than a vaginal birth if insurance would cover it.

  • It's personal preference and has nothing to do with the type of mother a person is going to be. My co-worker, one of the nicest people I've ever met, is hardly vain and she scheduled a c-section for her daughter. It's no different than choosing formula over breast milk. Unnatural does not equal "bad." Besides we don't know all the facts. Christina's a tiny woman, 5'1 and 18 pounds. haha This could also be a factor.

  • To grandmapatty above --- my 21-year-old co-worker scheduled a c-section... she's hardly rich.

  • Why do you people care? Its not your body, you choice or your life. Theres bigger issues in the world the really care about.

  • People that can afford to chose can chose natural birth or C-Section or even chose to have the baby at home with a midwife. It's their business AND their choice. I think its stupid when people try to force what they think is proper on everybody else. That's what's wrong with the world, too busy being nosy to mind our own business.

  • actually a c-section is a direct correllation to the kind of mother she will be. it is scientifically proven that women who do NOT go through the rite of passage of NATURAL (not just vaginal, but drug free!!!) birth, lose the physiological connection to their child. bonding is broken. cesearian is dangerous and there is a greater chance of you or your baby dieinf if you have one, so to choose one, you are puttng your child at risk of injury, death, or death of the mother!!! this being said, parents are not told this. doctors eagerly put people at risk for the extra 10 grand they will make. they don't care if they kill mothers and babies.
if you can't handle childbirth, you can't handle motherhood.......
this kid will be raised by a nanny because christina is already showing detatchment by scheduling a c-section

  • "actually a c-section is a direct correllation to the kind of mother she will be"
Hmmm .. dangerous choice of words!! I had my first baby via c section 15 months ago due to her being breech (I wanted a ntural birth but had no choice as they wouldn't deliver her naturally due to complications). Anyway, I bonded with my baby immediately. My Ob actually told me, "any idiot can make a baby or give birth to a baby, a mother is someone who raises her baby". So the whole c section vs natural is a load of crap really .. who cares how someone delivers their baby? As long as they are committed to being a mother, then that's all that really matters.
On saying that, I think a lot of woman think a c section is easier because they avoid labor/vaginal stitches etc .. but I took A LONG time to recover. It is major abdominal surgery so don't think it's going to be a walk in the park!! The recovery is long and painful (but then again, some natural births might be the same!).
At the end of the day, it comes down to individual choice. I don't think any of us have the right to push our views on to someone else.

  • Some women are such masochists. How can women be so foolish to go through the torture of delivering babies vaginally and stretch their ....... till it tears apart when the technology allows us to get c-sections. we are in the 21st century you don't have to go through it

  • Natural is the best way to go because gives the uterus a better way to convert down , but i guess with all that money you can pay for anything , I think c-sections should only be for mothers who can not deliver natural or emergancies only ! No one ever said it was going to feel as good popping out as it did going in , Duh!!! I had my 1st child at 6 cen diolated and I did not take pain meds I am alive I have had ll 3 of my girls natural no pain meds the way I see it I wasnt on it when i got that way plus I'd rather enjoy the nature course of becoming a mother the pain last nothing compared to the love from the site of your baby , although my labor with my kids was 12 min , I had fast ones, anyways c-sections are the easy way out and like someone else said they will hurt more cause the stiches and healing naturally you push the baby out and your able to enjoy your baby , I am not talking down on no one this is completly to do with birth deliverys .....CONGRATS CHRISTINA AND CONGRATS NICOLE

  • I just wanted to say that c-sections are not the easy way out. I had one 5 months ago because my baby was breech and even though you don't go through labor or have to push the baby out, the first time the nurse comes to make you get out of bed you feel like your incision is going to rip open and your uterus is going to fall out, it is not a pleasant feeling at all and the recovery is much longer.I think any way you have a baby is hard, THERE IS NO PAIN FREE CHILDBIRTH. Also, there is no way to get a tummy tuck after the baby comes out, you are still swollen, when they first sew you back up the skin is tight, you don't get the ugly little pooch until all the swelling goes down. Also, I can't believe how crazy some women are, I don't think I would love my son anymore if I had had him naturally or breastfed him. As long as you nuture and care for your child it shouldn't matter how you have them or how you feed them and people shouldn't make you feel bad for your choices.

  • All those judging her decision are lame. She is not vain for making a personal decision on how to bring her baby into the world. I promise her sacrafices the last 9 months give her the right to feel comfortable about what ever delivery method she chooses. I myself am having an elective C-Section in 3 weeks. I'm a petite person just like XTina, and fortunately for us modern times give us the right to choose how we want to deliver. I'm not super rich and I'm not having a tummy tuck. Having a vaginal delivery does not make you any more of women nor a better mother. There are risks either way, C Sections preserve your internal organs. Scaring is minimal, but you know thats not even important. Woman should stick together, we are the stronger sex that brings life into the world. That's beautiful, not if your baby comes out of your cha cha or not :)

  • Natural birth is much more unpredictable-the heart rate fluctuations, cord can wrap around neck, etc. whereas a C section is a controlled environment, However it is still surgery w/risks. Elective C s preserve hoo-has and hips and for those who think scars are "huge", now days they are super small and low. I've had both-a C section due to breech baby and natural birth after that with no drugs- both have their pros and cons and BTW both are VERY safe in the US. That bonding stuff is a load of crap-just because you push it out your bajingo does not mean anything-people who judge that quick usually are insecure about their own mothering abilities

  • My mom had me via c-section because I was in danger. I am 28 and her incision/scar still hurts. Also, there are pockets where it doesn't ever heal properly. I watched my friend stick her fingers INSIDE herself because she had a c-section 4 years ago and her incision/scar still hurts. C-sections are dangerous and unnecessary 90% of the time. To schedule one, without vanity playing a factor, perhaps they knew that Max was breech or had the cord wrapped around his neck. Maybe because of ultrasounds they knew baby and Mom could be at risk to try to deliver naturally. I am personally going to try for natural, drug free childbirth when I decide to have children. Key word: try. We don't know the circumstances of this planned c-section, and although unfortunate if it was for vanity, I'm sure Christina is going to be a better mother than Britney. (Who also had a planned c-section.)

  • I had a natural birth with my 11 year old daughter and it was a joke. Im pregnant again and im having a scheduled c section. The pain put me off for 11 years, it was a degrading humillitaing and generally unpleasant experience. Am i to posh to push? Hell yes! Ive never felt any need to join the natural birth club id much prefer a pain free birth and a pain controlled recovery than my previous experience. Of course Christina is going for a scheduled C section and quite rightly so!!!!!
