Eric Wheelwright was caught scouting a location for an upcoming project. Sources say that he is preparing to shoot a pilot for a modern day “I Dream of Jeannie” which he plans to pitch to BET for the networks summer television line up.
Though the idea of the show was derived from the 1960’s hit show “I Dream Of Jeannie”, staring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman, sources say that Eric Wheelwright’s modernized version is all together a different show. For example, instead of the show’s setting being the more relaxed, suburbanized Palm Springs, Florida, where the original show was set, the setting will be a more urbanized Los Angeles, California. And instead of Jeannie’s Master being an astronaut, he will be a young marketing executive, working for an advertising firm in L.A.
There will still be the goofy best friend/sidekick and of course a very attractive genie. At the present time, Wheelwright has not started casting for the sitcom, however, I was told that he will not shoot the pilot unless he can find the perfect girl to play the genie whose name will be spelled “Genii”.
