Just two weeks after their wedding, Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds have split, Access Hollywood has learned.

The former couple’s marriage lasted just three days, a source told Access.

Murphy and Edmonds released the following statement to Access on Wednesday:

“After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further. While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.”

The couple tied the knot on New Year’s Day on a private island near Bora Bora in French Polynesia.

They began dating fall 2006 and were engaged in July.

The wedding ceremony in Bora Bora was a spiritual ceremony and the couple planned on having a legally binding ceremony upon returning to the U.S. However, since that ceremony never took place, the couple was never officially married to begin with.

Murphy, 46, has five children from his previous marriage to Nicole Mitchell Murphy, who filed for divorce in 2005. He also has a daughter with Spice Girl and “Dancing With the Stars” alum Mel B.

Edmonds, a 40-year-old movie producer, has two sons from her 12-year marriage to R&B singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. As head of Edmonds Entertainment, she has produced the film and television series “Soul Food.”

Murphy’s film credits include “Dreamgirls,” “The Nutty Professor,” “Shrek” and “The Beverly Hills Cop” franchise.

  • It is most unfortunate when a marriage is ending, however if you didn't really know each other it was set to fail from the start. The thing about Eddie and Tracey in the first place is neither one of them really took enough time to get to know each other. It appears that they married on infatuation rather than taking time to grow to love one another. They didn't even date long enough for their children to really get to know the other step-parent. Tracey jumped into a marriage with a guy that was caught with a transveste man while married to Nicole with 5 children at home. He has a daughter with a Spice Girl that he wouldn't claim without being forced to. How can you expect a man like that to be a father figure to your sons, while not even acknowledging the fact that, "okay I had a relationship with Mel,yes I could be the father", but what does Eddie do, "It ain't mine" mentality. Then he looked real stupid when it came back, "You are the father!" Maury Povich could have told him that. If you ever take a really good look at Tracey's children on pictures, they appear to look unhappy an angry. I've never seen Brandon smiling on any pictures. Even if the marriage had worked, how could she expect her boys to feel comfortable blending into a huge instant family. Even Babyface said Dillon woke up one night very upset and crying for him and Tracey had to call him so Dillon could calm down. How can a mother jump into a fly-by-night marriage without giving your sons time to heal from a divorce and the loss of not seeing their father on a day to day basis. Apparently Tracey's kids were not fans of Eddies, because they weren't even at the wedding. Hollywood parents need to slow down and realize that their actions are what eventually push their children toward drugs and other life altering activities. Their are millions of children from divorced homes that will tell you they did this or that to cope with their parent's divorce. Tracey may be bright enough to build corporations but not smart enough to realize that Eddie Murphy was so beneath her and not worthy to be anywhere near her children. My sincere hope is that she and Babyface will make there way back to each other and put their family back together. If I were Babyface's new girlfriend, Nicole Pantyberry (Ha,Ha), I would be afraid, be very AFRAID. Cause if she was hoping for a ring from Babyface, she better guess again, because he truly loves Tracey and always will. To him there is no one that can even
compare. He will probably never marry again unless as time goes by he and Tracey will reunite. Tracey may not know it yet, but fate and the heavens meant for her and Babyface to be together. Tracey was very young when she married Babyface and sometimes people have to learn new things in life to realize and appreciate what they had. Hopefully Babyface and Tracey will get another chance and can put their family back together.
