Today music giant EMI gave a rare interview at the Wharton private equity and venture capital conference to Portfolio.com to respond to rumors, as reported last week to you by LALATE, that The Rolling Stones could leave EMI in March after decades with the label.
Guy Hands, the founder of the British private equity firm Terra Firm that bought EMI recently, told Portfolio that such reports are “headlines created by the British press.”
British? Oh really!
“No artist has made any statements … Some artists managers have chosen to speak out prior to finding out what changes will mean to them and their clients. But we haven’t had those discussions yet. We will be having discussions about those changes over the next several months.”
Despite Hands’ comments, countless news sources (not just in England) are questioning the “artists revolt at EMI” that has “Paul McCartney and Radiohead already gone and Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Kylie, Snow Patrol, Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz and The Verve threatening to follow suit.”
