  • Everyone is down on Michael Jackson for bleaching his skin and apparently trying to become a white man. Why then, does it go unnoticed that L'il Kim is desperately trying to become white?
Everyone is down on Michael Jackson for bleaching his skin, changing his nose, using plastic surgery to alter to his African features to European features and apparently trying to become a white man. Why then, does it go unnoticed when L'il Kim and Beyoncé have altered themselves in a desperate bid to become white women? L'il Kim's hair, skin and nose are not what they used to be. She really resembles a white woman. This is a tragic commentary on how African American women perceive themselves. Women like this have made it acceptable for Black women to wear fake hair weaves - Weaving is the process where the hair of Asian and Indian women is somehow procured and then sold in America and Europe. It is then used in different hairstyles to give the appearance of long hair. This is done by pasting, stching or clipping the purchased hair onto the scalp and or hair of the customer. The unconscious folks (for the most part, women) who buy this ill-begotten hair, NEVER ask themselves where the hair they use comes from. They never consider the fact that they are potentially participating in the oppression of underprivileged Asian and Indian women. What kind of woman pastes another person's hair onto her own anyway?

Every Black women in American has an idea of what "Black" hair looks like. It can be called woolly, nappy, curly or whatever. But is never silky Blond. You don't swing it around and flip it over your shoulder. Yet it has many qualities and there are many things which can only be done with Black hair. American should acknowledge that woolly hair is just as beautiful as any other type of hair. Broadcasting images of a blond, white skinned L'il Kim, who was born as Black with nappy black, woolly hair is an affirmation that Black hair, Black people and Black skin is ugly. The message is - denying your people, your heritage, your roots is ok. Images of light skinned Beyoncé and L'il Kim, two women who were born with BROWN skin, is an affirmation that brown skin is ugly. I would rather have a Klu Klux Klanner in the black race than one who lightens his skin and alters his hair. Both are equally self-annihilating.

L'il Kim is a sell out to her people. If only she would take a tip from Mohamed Ali, who encouraged his wife to wear an Afro. Thanks to pathetic role models such as this, American black women have become very self hating. Every black woman in wearing a weave and wishing her skin were lighter. So many copy white women who despise them Worse, they often despise those who are darker skinned or wear their hair naturally. Even worse, they often despise themselves. What is the future of Black America if Black American women continue in this way? It's sad really. Vanity, oh vanity! African American culture encourages women to be extremely self-absorbed. Emphasis is on their physical appearance. Black women and children are two of America's most vulnerable and powerless groups. Instead of being concerned with the fact that they are extremely disadvantaged in America, they spend their time and money on their hair, clothes and skin. All over the world, black people regularly use enormous quanties of toxic skin lightening creams, trying to whiten their skins. I sincerely hope that African American women will change direction and manifest a more self-loving and self respecting aesthetic. I hope that they will begin to invest in their economic future and the future of their children. First step: Give shallow, plastic, self-hating, Anti-African public figures such as L'il Kimm the boot!
