Jane Fonda doesn't understand the ruckus made over her using the "c-word" on Thursday morning's Today show.

"The first time that I knew about The Vagina Monologues, I was asked to perform that particular monologue in Atlanta, and so I just happened to say the name of it," she told Usmagazine.com at V-Day's 10th Anniversary Party sponsored by Grey Goose in NYC last night.

"I didn't even think," Fonda, 70, added. "I'm sorry if I offended anybody ... I think it's pretty silly."

Fonda had been chatting with anchor Meredith Vieira about the 15th anniversary of The Vagina Monologues when she let the word slip.

Vieira later issued an apology.

"We were talking about The Vagina Monologues and Jane Fonda inadvertently said a word from the play that you don't say on television," Vieira said. "It was a slip and obviously she apologizes, and so do we. We would do nothing to offend the audience. So please accept that apology."
