Your Guide to Friday Night Lights

Tuesday night is the premiere of Friday Night Lights, the new NBC series based on the movie that came out last year. And if this fella pictured looks familiar, it's because he's the guy who was blown to smithereens last season on Grey's Anatomy. (Remember: Christina Ricci, Meredith and the bomb?) Anyway, now this fella -- whose real name is Kyle Chandler (King Kong) -- plays the football coach at the high school in Dillon, TX... a place where football is more important than, well, just about anything.

Here's a breakdown of who's who in the town of Dillon, Texas...

Coach Eric Taylor: Played by Kyle Chandler, Coach Taylor is Dillon High School’s newly appointed head football coach. In such a big football town like Dillon, Texas, he's feeling a lot of pressure on his shoulders as the new football season kicks off. He's married to Tami and they have a daughter, Julie.

Tami Taylor: Connie Britton plays the role of Tami, who is the wife of Dillon High School's head football coach, Eric Taylor. They have a daughter named Julie. Connie actually originated the role of the coach's wife in the film Friday Night Lights, so she comes with good stats.

Jason Street: Here's the word on the Street: He's the captain of the Dillon High football team as well as the QB. Which means? He gets the hot girls, of course. He's dating cheerleader Lyla. But there's a lot of pressure on him... and an injury could ruin everything for him in the blink of an eye. The role is played by Scott Porter.

Lyla Garrity: Minka Kelly plays Lyla Garrity, who's a Panther’s cheerleader and the girlfriend of star quarterback Jason Street. She scored the hottie! Hip hip hooray.

Brian "Smash" Williams: Doesn't he look like a tough guy? Gaius Charles stars in FNL as the super duper running back who goes by the name Smash. Rumor has it, Smash doesn't get along so well with Riggins. Uh-oh. Will he live up to his name and smash Riggins around?

Tim Riggins: Taylor Kitsch portrays running back Tim Riggins, who has a serious vice... or 20. Ah, the bad boy. One vice that is revealed early on is that the teen likes his booze. He doesn't get along too well with Smash either. He also has a connection to Tyra.

Tyra Collette: Adrianne Palicki, who starred in South Beach, is Tyra. No, not Tyra Banks, silly. They look nothing alike. Tyra a high school student who has something to do with the really hot, troubled football star Tim Riggins.

Matt Saracen: Matt is so not the big man on campus... until this second-string QB unexpectedly gets thrust in the spotlight. He's buddies with Landry. The role is portrayed by Zach Gilford.

Landry Clarke: Jesse Plemons is Landry Clarke who is not one of the fellas with the, um, tight ends. We mean -- he's not on the football team. Landry is actually brought into the drama of the game through his best friend/backup QB Matt Saracen.

Julie Taylor: Aimee Teegarden is Julie Taylor, who's the daughter of Coach Taylor and Tami.
