She's a drop out, a recovering alcoholic, and has one of the best sets of pipes on a singer today. Amy Winehouse, move over. Cat Power is here to steal your thunder.
Cat Power (a.k.a. Chan Marshall, because really – who's named "Cat"?) has been rocking the indie rock/folk/blues scene for years. But recent successes both in front of the mic and beyond it have propelled Chan into true stardom.
Chan's got a string of successful albums including her latest release "Jukebox" with her group The Dirty Delta Blues Band. She's also scheduled to play at this year's Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee, not far from her southern roots in Atlanta, Georgia. And you can see her in the indie flick "My Blueberry Nights" alongside Jude Law and fellow musician Norah Jones. More roles are apparently in the works for Chan, who's still adjusting to being in the spotlight.
Following a mental breakdown in 2006 after launching her album "The Greatest" and embarking on an international tour, Chan got help with her issues and weaned herself off of booze. Talk about breaking out of the celebrity mold. We wish Chan would teach some other artists about that – but we'll settle for more of her great music.
