See More... Patrick Dempsey who plays a dreamy doctor on TV series Grey’s Anatomy, made a special appearance at the Maine Medical Center to announce his plan in the opening of the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at the hospital after contributed $250,000 in donation!

Dempsey’s center will provide education and support programs for cancer patients and their families. Staff will also be traveling to more rural areas to bring services to patients who may not be able to come to Lewiston.

The actor told the media that dealing with his mother’s illness promoted his action.

Dempsey said, “I think that it’s very important for anybody going through cancer treatment today is just to have a person there, so you’re not being treated like a number and that’s what we’re trying to achieve.”

“For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming,” Dempsey, 42, told reporters. “So I talked to my sister about a place where people could go for all this type of information and help. Knowledge is power.”

Dempsey’s sister, Mary who works at the hospital will run the center!

The facility may not be open until later this month, but the website with cancer and wellness information is live is live.
