Eric Kripke Talks About Season Four of "Supernatural"
*FBI Agent Victor Henriksen is a popular character with fans, who were dismayed at his apparent death at the end of episode 3x12, "Jus in Bello." When asked whether Agent Henriksen, played by Charles Malik Whitfield, might return, Eric Kripke said there was always a possibility, but added that as with other characters they've had to let go, such as John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Gordon Walker (Sterling K. Brown), it depends on the actors' schedules and whether they get another project.
*On the subject of how many more seasons Supernatural might run, Kripke joked that Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester, and Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, "like the idea of a five year map because they're working so hard." Kripke then added that before "Dean literally gets on a motorcycle and jumps a shark," he would rather "go out strong." He mentioned a five year plan, saying, "epic stories deserve an ending."
*With regards to the show's new big bad, Kripke said that Lilith will appear in the season finale, in her guise of a ten-year-old girl. "She's going to be a combination of all myths concerning Lilith," he said. "We have done our homework."
*Kripke also gave another hint on how good vs. evil, religion, and mythology work in the world of Supernatural. "We weren't going to see necessarily positive, glowy ethereal versions of supernatural," he said, because that's not scary enough. He did say that "down and dirty versions of different factions are possible," and wouldn't rule out the possibility of looking at more benevolent supernatural beings, as long as they can do it in a "really cool, badass way."
*The show will reveal more on Mary Winchester's history.
He confirmed that the activities of the Yellow Eyed Demon had a cycle of 22 years and said there are plans to go into a backstory on Mary and John. Kripke said he'd like to show them as teenagers. "We have all this cool extra mythology about them, and the twenty-two year cycle plays into that as well."
*And what about season three's two new recurring female characters? Kripke praised actress Lauren Cohan, who portrays con artist Bela, but acknowledged that the character isn't working as well as he'd hoped. "She made the boys look stupid maybe once or twice too many, and she was never tied into the mythology." He said she'll be back one more time in season three, with a reveal that links her to the mytharc, and that she won't "show up the boys...the boys show her up." With regards to the demon Ruby (Katie Cassidy), Kripke was more positive. "I like Ruby. If you don't like Ruby, tough." (He also referenced what he thinks went wrong with the character character of Jo Harvelle, played by Alona Tal. "She was always awesome and kick-ass," he explained, "but she was always more of the little sister than what her character was created to be, a love interest.")
*As for whether we'll see the Winchesters body swap any time soon, Kripke seemed doubtful about the idea, but said, "it's possible."
Reruns of Supernatural return to the CW April 3 at 9 pm, and the final four episodes of season three will start airing April 24.
