Ryan Cabrera has nothing but positive feedback about ex Ashlee Simpson's fiancé Pete Wentz.

"I like him a lot — I think they're really good together," he told Usmagazine before news of their engagement broke on Wednesday.

"I met him a couple times, and he was really nice and intelligent, so I was like, 'Very cool, go for it!'" Cabrera added.

Cabrera – who dated Simpson from 2004 to 2005 – said they remain "friendly."
