"She also wants to express her gratude to Miss Bullock and Mr. James for what she understands was their concern for her well being after the accident," her defense attorney, Benjamin Richard, said after her arraignment in Gloucester, Massachusetts, according to the Boston Herald.
Gatchell, 64, was arraigned on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation.
She was released on personal recognizance, according to the Herald. Neither Bullock nor James were present.
Bullock and James were riding in an SUV Friday night when a station wagon driven by Gatchell crossed the center line and hit them, police told the Associated Press.
Both vehicles were totaled.
Gatchell had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent — more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.
Police told the AP that Bullock, 43, was "gracious" and concerned about whether Gatchell was OK.
