Examining Portman's New Boyfriend.

Oscar-nominated beauty Natalie Portman has a new love interest and his name is Devendra Banhart.

Who is this Banhart character? Born in Texas and raised in Venezuala, he's an indie folk singer who fronts the band Power Mineral and has several solo albums.

Photographers have spotted the couple all around New York City since the middle of April, acting very much like a couple -- although the most recent photos are of an unfortunate incident where a dog peed on Portman.

The 'Star Wars' actress even appears in the indie singer's new video for his song 'Carmensita,' Pitchfork reports.

The pairing may have been in the works for much longer than many realized. When Portman created an iTunes mix for charity last fall, Banhart wrote an exclusive song for the play list.

Many blogs have questioned the relationship, pointing out the odd pairing, because looks wise the musician is far from the A-lister's last boyfriend -- 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' hunk Gael Garcia Bernal.

"When we first saw pictures of Natalie Portman walking through New York with her new boyfriend, we initially thought Nat had started volunteering at her local homeless shelter, acting as a mentor for one lucky (and possibly blind) hobo. But then they made out," Defamer blogged.

"Portman is a quality catch for a guy that looks like Cisco Adler," the Hollywood Gossip wrote.

Perez Hilton even chimed in on the new couple, "Banhart probably has a really great personality."
