Cosmetics giant Lancome is seeking a court order against the Kill Bill star in a dispute over past advertising campaigns.
The French company claims the actress – who signed a multi-year, multi-million-dollar deal with the firm – is demanding $1 million for unauthorized use of her name and face on Canadian billboards and Asian Web sites after her contract had expired in 2004, the Associated Press reports.
But an attorney for the company claims that the contract relieves Lancome of responsibility if third parties use her name and face after the agreement lapsed.
Thurman's attorney, Bertram Fields, admitted he was surprised by the state Supreme Court filing – but said he's ready to fight.
"I'm delighted that the case will go before a jury," he told the wire service. "They got an enormous benefit throughout the world after the contract was over, and $1 million doesn't begin to do it."
