Over the weekend, Oprah traded in her usual 7.4 million daily viewers to speak to a more intimate audience of 4,000. Oprah was on-hand at Stanford University to deliver the commencement speech and to impart her New Age “Oprah-isms” onto the minds of tomorrow.
Highlights include:
“The secret I’ve learned to getting ahead is being open to the lessons…”
“I believe that there is a lesson in almost everything that you do and every experience…”
And my personal favourite, “Money is pretty nice. I like money. It’s good for buying things. But having a lot of money does not automatically make one a successful person. What you want is money and meaning - you want your work to be meaningful, because meaning is what brings the real richness to your life.”
One student commented that the speech was “extremely personal”.
