I Like It I Don't Like It
Everyone from Rihanna in flowing yellow ruffles to Alicia Keys in a magenta flirty frock to Jennifer Hudson in a sleek copper-toned sheath, strutted down the red carpet in their summer finery Tuesday night for the star-studded BET Awards '08 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

"The Insider" was there to bring you the glamour and comments by arriving celebs. Hosted by funnyman D.L. Hughley, the night included performances by Fergie, Rihanna, Usher, Kanye West, Keyshia Cole, Alicia Keys, TLC, En Vogue, Jill Scott, Maxwell and more.

Winners included Chris Brown (Best Male R&B Artist), Kobe Bryant (Best Male Athlete), Missy Elliott (Best Female Hip Hop Artist), Kanye West (Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Best Collaboration) and Lil Wayne (Viewer's Choice Award).

The night included a tribute to soul legend Al Green, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, and had the crowd singing along on its feet for rousing renditions of his classics "Let's Stay Together" and "Love and Happiness."

Queen Latifah was on hand to honor Quincy Jones with BET's Humanitarian Award for his extensive philanthropic endeavors. In accepting the award, the music legend paraphrased Leo Tolstoy, saying, "'My piece of bread only belongs to me if everybody has a piece to eat.' Nobody has to starve while I eat and that's the way I want to feel the rest of my life." He went on to advise the young people in the audience, "When it rains, get wet. Live your life, baby, and live it real."

Presenters taking the stage included Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, Cuba Gooding Jr., LL Cool J, Ashanti, John Legend, Diddy and more.

  • The awards were great this year. I enjoyed all of the performances, especially the tribute to Al green. Jill Scott really tore up the stage with one of Al's greatest hits. And she did it looking so lovely in that dress showing off her Colgate smile. She must have been thinking about her fiancé while she was singing. Now that I think about it, Jill is really out there these days. Singing, acting, a bit of this and that on the fashion side, and now about to jump the broom. She kind of reminds me of Bianca.

I’m currently working with Toyota and I’m really hyped to spread the word about our new interactive webisodes, If Looks Could Kill. They follow an aspiring fashion assistant, Bianca, who is a prime example of a woman who’s got it going on. I’m talking the dream job, a man who’s got all the ladies drooling, and the spice to keep it all together when hell hits the fan. Think James Bond meets Sanaa Lathan in “Something New”, Bianca is the girl who isn’t afraid to run in her Louboutin heels!

You’ll have to see what I’m talking about. Don’t forget to check out the second episode—BFF in a Box—which is available today (6/23). This girl is definitely courageous! She’s kind of like today’s Foxy Brown, don’t you think? You’ve probably already been reeled in so don’t stop now.

I hope I didn’t overstep my bounds by directly contacting you. After viewing your blog and seeing how hip to the game you are when it comes to what’s hot and current, I figured this would be something that would catch your interest.

Looking forward to the girl talk!
