Rocker Jon Bon Jovi Raises $3 million for Barack

Rocker Bon Jovi held a fund-raiser at his New Jersey home that brought in a whopping $3 million for presidential candidate Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee, the New York Post reports.

About 100 people attended the event Friday at Bon Jovi's mansion in Middletown, NJ, paying about $31,000 each to mingle with the singer and other Democratic supporters, the Post said. 



Obama gave a brief speech at the gathering, saying he will stand up to any dirty campaign tactics by the Republicans. "We're not going to be bullied, we're not going to be smeared," he said.

  • It's too bad someone so good looking is also so stupid. $3 million for Barack Obama? He'll need that money for the taxes Mr. Obama's administration (never mind all the cronies to whom he owes money) will pass on to "ordinary" folks -- and even more on to rich folks such as Mr. Bon Jovi. When will you liberals ever learn that there is NO FREE LUNCH? Universal health care? That will NOT be free; you'll spend half your income paying for "free," "universal" health care. radle to grave coverage in things such as health, education, etc.? Again, be prepared to pay through the NOSE for these "goodies." You say you won't let the Republicans bully or smear you? Honey, you haven't lived until you've lived in a "cradle-to-grave" government subsidided country. You'll have "free" health and all that but in return, you'll give up your privacy and your freedom. It's really NOT a good trade-off. You and Springsteen deserve each other and if you continue to stay on a path of stupidity and self-destruction by voting for Obama (who still thinks the USA has 57 states...and we still don't know what religion he REALLY practices. And what about thosewonderful associates - Tony Resko, Rev. Wright and Rev. Pfleger?) then you'll deserve what you undoubtedly will get!

Does it also register at all that we are the only undustrialized country in the world without health care for all.     • Missmoo, even for a pretty anonymous comment on a gossip site, your reply is egregiously poorly informed. Let me debunk your false claims point-by-point:
      A) Obama's tax plan calls for raising taxes on the rich by eliminating many of their tax shelters and passing on the savings to the middle and working class. Personally, if Paris HIlton has to actually pay taxes and I pay less, I'm all for that plan.
      B) Where in the Democratic platform or in Obama's stump speeches is there anything about a free lunch?
      C) Anyone with half a brain knows that universal health care won't be free. But as every European country that offers government-sponsored health care can prove, when you take the high-paid executives (whose bonuses are NOT based on meeting performance criteria but rather just hand-outs for still being at the company) out of the picture, the system runs more efficiently, inexpensively, and allows doctors to actually do their jobs rather than fill out paperwork. Personally, I'd rather my taxes go to funding health care instead of helping subsidize the huge tax benefits given to corporations like oil companies who are showing record profits (and charging us through the nose at the pumps).
      D) Both McCain and Obama have many deep ties to lobbyists. That point is well-established and moot because they cancel each other out. Add in to the mix that Palin, as Wasilla's mayor, asked for $27 million in pork barrel benefits for the 5,400 residents of her town (population when she was mayor). I mean, it's simple math, there.

      If we elect someone who actually remembers that this is a democracy -- a government by the people, for the people, and of the people -- as opposed to a government by, for, and of corporations whose sole motivation is profit, then yeah, I guess we will get what we deserve: a government who listens to its people.

  • I am glad Bon Jovi has helped the democratic cause: He must really care about Americans all having the benefit of college, and all americans having the right to health care. God bless him. I know thru his work with Hiv victims that he is morally outstanding. He must realize that a 72 year old president could posibly leave our country in total chaos should Palin ever have the need to replace McCain at the tables of foreign policy. He must realize that just because you are a female does not necesarrily make you competent replacement for McCain......If only Bon Jovi could get the Republicans to talk about substance instead of moose soup, that would also be a blessing.
