New Photos: Matt Damon and Wyclef Jean Help Storm-Stricken Haiti

Matt Damon and musician/producer Wyclef Jean roll-up their sleeves to help Haitian residents! From the back of a pick-up truck, the two distributed food Sunday to flood-devastated residents in the city of Cabaret.

Damon, and the Haitian-born Jean, went to the region as part of a humanitarian effort to help survivors of tropical storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike.

  • While it is nice Mr. Damon can afford to take time from his busy acting career and family to help the victims of Hurricane Ike in Haiti, I've always held to the adage that "charity begins at home." There are children in slums and ghettos and there are victims of the same hurricane in Texas as well as victims of other hurricanes in the United States. Are the people of the USA not good enough for Mr. Damon's help or does working in Haiti look better on his resume than helping people in his own country? I'm so sock and tired of these knee-jerk liberals giving their help and assistance to other people in foreign countries while at the same time bad-mouthing the government and ignoring the people of his own country. The time he took criticizing Gov. Palin is ime he cold have helped build a school in the USA or visited people who were victims of Hurricane Gustav or Hanna. Why don't you begin to practice charity at home - in the greatest country on Earth, the country that allows you to put her down and criticize her as you pursue a career in acting (if that's what you call it).

  • The "actuary tables" suggest Matt Damon's future as a political commentator have the same odds as the Titanic.

  • I completely disagree with you. Have you ever think that maybe the"greatest country on earth" wil have enough people to help out. While you sitting here criticizing Matt Damon, who is doing what most human being with heart will do, why don't you go ahead and start helping the people in Texas? I am not saying that they do not need help there, but obviously the situation is more terrible than it is in Haiti than Texas.Another thing, I believe that we live in a democratic country, Matt Damon can choose to help whoever he wants with his money and courage.
    So don't be an idiot.

  • The fact of matter is that the most powerful country in the world can takecare of its own people;otherwise, we would fire those in key positions for failing to do so. It is true that many people in the U.S. live in poverty and can use Damon's help; however, one cannot compare how people from Haiti need rice, beans, and water to survive. They would not be able to get that unless the united nations and people like Damon came to the rescue. Every country that is supporting Haiti in this time of need could use that money to take care of their internal issues; however, they have chosen to help those who a have a greater need, the need to fulfill one of the basic needs of every human being, food and water. Personally, I hate politicians because all, with no exception, are a bunch of liars that only care about themselves and their buddies. That is why, when I vote, I stay away from being liberal or conservative. I choose the one that, in my opinion, could cause less harm to our nation.

  • Haiti is the poorest country in this hemisphere of the world, those people hadn't even fully recovered from a natural disaster occurred YEARS ago when Ike and Gustav came by. They need the help more than Texas does. Not that Texas shouldn't be helped, but because the situation doesn't apply in the same way to those two different zones; don't be so bitter over his political opinion, he's HELPING, which is way more than a lot of people are doing.

  • Heh Matt, aren't you a little confused? How about giving your fellow Americans in Texas and Louisiana some of your help, and maybe a little encouragement.

    • are you serious? Unlike the US, there is no social welfare net or wealthy government to help those who need basic services as food and water. Was your comment about Americans being helped first tongue in cheek or a joke? I hope so!

  • Matt, may God bless you for everything you have done. I will pray for you to continue helping people that are so less fortunate than you. There are a lot of negative/selfish people in the world, so please pray for those people for me.

  • why does he have to be confused for trying to help those in needs; Those that do not have a solid government to lean on; those innnocent people who don't have a place to stay and nothing to eat. i am not saying that Texas and louisiana don't need the help. Lord knows, they do but they have a solid government standing behind them. Those people in haiti has nobody. Don't give to those who already have but to those who don't; those who can't pay you back that is what charity is truly about.
    Luke 14:12-14
He (Jesus) said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

  • I need help too. I lost my home during Hurricane Ike. I lived in Seabrook TX and nothing is left of my home or contents. FEMA has not assisted and most victims feel drowned in paperwork. I am paying for a mortgage on lot at this stage. I have lost work because I have had to meet with 7 agents (FMEA, SBA, engineers). Giving should include here in the USA. Many feel we are rich with resources from our government, I can attest that in 2.5 months since the storm I have not seen one penny. It is a true hardship. I've suffered depression, post traumatic stress and I've lost all I owned. I would love to see someone come help us here as well. Everything is needed, our homes rebuilt, clothing, furniture, food.
    God bless those that help.
