American Idol 7 Top 7 Mariah Carey
After debating on whether or not to watch this week's American Idol with Mariah Carey, I ended up watching. I have to say it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, as my expectations were pretty low. Mariah was actually very nice to the contestants and seemed really supportive. I admit that I didn't even know most of the names of the songs, but I found the list on Celebridiot. Here's the review for the Top 7:
- David Archuleta - chose to sing such a boring song, "“When You Believe,” but the judges loved it. I was yawning thru the entire performance. I guess he sang it okay, but it did nothing for me.
- Carly Smithson - overdid it a bit when she went for the high notes in “Without You,” but the beginning wasn't so bad.
- Syesha Mercado sang “Vanishing” beautifully. I had never heard the song before, but it her performance showed off Syesha's vocal range. Simon Cowell made a comment explaining that he didn't think it was a good idea to sing a song that no one knows, but I'm not sure why that matters so much if a good performance that people enjoy.
- Brooke White - sucked really badly tonight. She sang "Hero" quite nasally and it was painful to listen to. It was the only song that I actually recognized since I've heard Mariah sing it so many times on the radio or TV shows or whatever, and as much as I used to get annoyed hearing Mariah's voice to the song, I now have a new appreciation for her, especially over Brooke's.
- Kristy Lee Cook - sang “Forever” and surprisingly, I didn't think she was the worst tonight. Of course I didn't think it was really good performance though.
- David Cook - absolutely awesome tonight. He did a great rendition of “Always Be My Baby” and well, I loved it and thought he did a much better version than the original. I know that's not saying too much since I'm not a Mariah fan, but I was amazed by him.
-
Jason Castro - nice performance of “I Don’t Wanna Cry.” He has such a sweetness about him when he sings.
Favorite tonight: David Cook
Prediction for the Bottom 3: Brooke White, Kristy Lee Cook, Carly Smithson
Who I think will get the boot: Brooke White (Kristy Lee Cook seems to be sliding by each week, but if I'm wrong and she gets cut, I'll be thrilled!)
