I believe Kelly did an awsone job. No one is comparing her to Bono or Pavarotti. They are each different singers. What would you rather conutry crooner Carrie Underwood, or Chris Daughtry or Ruben sing it. Kelly was brave to do it and gave an excellent performance. It WAS an audience full of young people, think about it!!!

I at first did not see her name as the performer, and the cameras were not on her so I didn't expect to hear her wonderful voice. OK it wasn't Pavarotti but why would he be the voice at a youth rally? I'm in my fifties and I thought she added a youthful sound plus a wonderful plea behind her voice that was spiritual. well, kelly clarkosn did it great, because for a pop/rock super star she did it with her heart and gave herself to this even if she is not catholic she show us that if you have God in your heart then your religion is in your heart and you have to share it with others.

I am not a fan of Kelly Clarkson's voice as she has resorted to too many cliches of the R&B crowd on her recordings: yelling, screaming and endless boring trills. However, her performance of the classic Ave Maria was not bad. Granted, it was too fast and her Latin was abysmal but I believe she truly tried to give her best reverential treatment to the classic. When she sings "straight" her voice can be lovely. The Ave Maria is one of the world's and the Catholic Church' most revered and popular hymns. Over the years It has been performed and recorded by some of the world's greatest operatic and pop vocalists: Mario Lanza, Lucianno Pavarotti, Andreas Bocelli, Bing Crosby, Jerry Vale and Charlotte Church, to name just a few. It was created and composed to honor the Mother of God whom Catholics have a special veneration for. I think Clarkson did her best to convey her respect to the Pope and to the Holy Mother of God.
