Cowell Thinks David Cook Should Win Idol

From the looks of disgust on Simon Cowell’s face this season, it might seem like he despises each of the American Idol contestants with equal vigor. Not true! As Blender has learned, Simon despises one contestant less than the others.

Who do you think deserves to win this season? we asked Simon. “Probably David Cook,” he drawled. “I think he’s done more to deserve it over the eleven weeks. He’s taken more risks, he’s done things with certain songs that have been more interesting. If I’m gonna base it on who has done the best performances over the live shows, David Cook deserves to win.”

Of course it’s also true that Simon is coaching Cook this week, which means he’ll sing “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” a ballad also recorded by Cowell’s chart-topping X Factor discovery, Leona Lewis. “I love that song! David Cook didn’t even know what it was,” Cowell snorted.

For an obnox — uh, opinionated guy like Simon, nothing is more ruinous to good television than boring contestants. He was clearly not pleased with Jason Castro. “He just gave up — I get frustrated over that”. “There was a classic moment last week,” Cowell continues unhappily. “We had these callers phone in and I forget what the question was — ‘What do you like?’ — and they just sat there. They couldn’t talk. It was literally un-be-liev-able.”

Is it because they’re all working to ingratiate themselves with voters? “Of course! It’s like they’ve studied the show and they don’t want to put a foot wrong. And that’s going to have to change, going forward. I want what I call gobby, talkative people on the show.”

So, next season of Idol: gobby, talkative singers. We won’t say which contestant Simon finds the most boring, but we will mention this: When told that his Blender interviewer bears a resemblance to David Archuleta, Cowell roared, “I would think you have a bit more personality than he does.”

  • No business on the radio? You've got to be kidding me. I don't get why all the nay-sayers keep dissing David A. The boy's voice is pure + beautiful. Performances like his rendition of "And So It Goes" should have shut up anyone who doubted this kid's vocal talent. That's all I'm saying on the matter. For now, at least. lol

  • Syesha is by far a better all around artist that David Archuleta...he's yound and sweet and teenie bopper(y), so he makes the little girls cry...but Syesha is awesome and should have been in at least second place. David A. always acts suprised, like..."ME?" "NO WAY" and "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT"...he mouthed every time he was sent to the couch. And I agree with him. He should be surprised. Especially now. Seyesha baby, you will have an AMAZING career. You deserve at least second place in this competion - you are brave and a risk taker and you are smart and beautiful. YOU GO!!

  • David A will probably win. I like David A, he can really sing, i think the biggest problem with him is that he is really young. I just don't think he is ready yet. But he does have a amazing voice. I loved Syesha, I really hoped she would've made it to the finale. She seemed to get better each week, no matter what the judges said, I thought she sounded great every week, sometimes she didn't pick the right song for herself though. I would definitely buy her album as well as Carly and Michael Johns, but that's it for this season. I like David Cook, he can sing, I just think he is trying way too hard to fit into the rocker mold that he is being put in. I get rock is his thing, but it seems more like he is doing what he is being forced to rather than what he wants.

  • I think David A will probably win, but honestly it don't matter to me. lol I was hoping Michael, Carly or Syesha would've made it to the finale, it would have been more interesting.

  • It was very sad about the ending on Supernatural Thurs. night. I had a feeling Dean was gonna die, but I never thought they'd show him where he was. What a cliffhanger. Can't wait to see Season 4. I have a feeling Sam and Bobby are gonna bring Dean back from the dead by taking Lilith out!
