BLAKE SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT Leighton Meester was seen on the set of her hit show "Gossip Girl" in NYC on November 12, keeping comfortable in a pair of Uggs in-between takes and giving her best scheming Blair Waldorf looks while the camera was rolling. For a Leighton (or in this case, Blair)-inspired look, start with a cherry red winter coat, like Suzabelle's Ballard Coat in Red, over a conservative yet youthful black dress, similar to Shumaq's Sasha Keyhole Dress in Black. Finish off your look with a pair of winter white leggings (Zoa's Logo Long Leggings in White will do nicely) and a red handbag (check out Carla Mancini's The Shopper Bag in Red), and you'll be popping up on the pages of GG in no time! While Leighton and her co-star Blake Lively are no stranger to rumors that there is on-set animosity, and now Blake is speaking out about to put an end to these rumors. She said, "There are obviously always little dramas. You are on set for 16 hours, so people get irritable. In any workplace there are always little things and frustrations. But, the media is always trying to pit us against each other. I guess because it's just not interesting to say, 'Everybody gets along; everybody just works 18-hour days and goes home to sleep." Looking absolutely stunning in a gorgeous charcoal floor length gown, Jessica Alba attended the 5th Annual Keep a Child Alive Black Ball with her husband, Cash Warren on Nov 13 in New York, NY. While gabbing with celebs from Alicia Keys to “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi, Jess channeled decades of the past with her crimson lips and extra long, thick fringe bangs. I have to say, I totally dig the new bangin’ look – do you agree? I also love, love loooove the vintage vibe of her gown, with its ornate gem and feather encrusted appliqué, hanging gold chains, and seductive backless style bringing it into the modern era (to recreate the look, pair an elegant dress like Ingwa Melero’s Elena Charmeuse Maxi Dress in Aubergine or Gold Hawk’s Aofe Long Dress in Moonrock with a long gold necklace such as Robyn Rhodes’ Grace Necklace in Gold). Accessorizing only with her glittering wedding ring and a wide gold cuff (check out Robyn Rhodes’ Vicki Cuff in Gold), Jess looked timelessly elegant in this sophisticated ‘fit, from head to toe. GREEN AT THE GROVE Victoria Beckham was spotted strolling around The Grove in West Hollywood on Tuesday, November 11, with son Cruz (sporting his finest zookeeper costume and Santa hat). Adorable! While little Cruz decided to play dress up for his outing, Victoria (of course) used the opportunity to strut her fashionable stuff. Wearing a hunter green frock (like Qi's incredibly cozy Cashmere Racerback Pleated Dress in Fairway or Woo's Celine Dress in Putting Green) with black suede Louboutin booties and her trademark oversized sunglasses (I love the frames of Nour's Moman Sunglasses in Street), she finished off her look with a huge black hobo bag (similar to Antoinette Lee Designs' Stella Bag in Black) and her pixie cut (which I now officially love). Simple yet elegant, Victoria continues to knock 'em out of the park with her killer style choices. In other Beckham news, it seems that the rumor is beginning to spread that Posh is planning to move to Milan while David is there, to keep a watchful eye on him. A source tells The Daily Star, "Victoria wasn’t thinking of going to Milan with David, but when stories appeared about her letting him go there on his own, there were lots of comments about how foolish she was being." Victoria's rep is now speaking out, saying, "She was always planning on splitting her time between Milan and LA. KICKING IT FOR KUNG FU PANDA Making yet another surprise appearance on the red carpet, Angelina Jolie made her rounds at the DVD release party for the animated flick Kung Fu Panda at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on Nov 9. Not straying from her signature hue, Angie wore a casual black mini with long sleeves (check out Rails’ Mona Dress in Black or Qi’s Crew Underslip in Black - with leggings of course!) and sophisticated nude peeptoes, accessorizing with a simple pair of dangling gem earrings (I’m sure Angie would approve of Robyn Rhodes’ Lani Earrings in Gold or Christie Martin’s Small Sharktooth Earrings in 14K Gold) complete with natural make-up and her trademark long, loose waves. Nothing spectacular, but for a mom of six, it doesn’t get any more polished than this – and unlike other celebs who overdo it on the red carpet, her ‘fit is entirely appropriate for the event. In case you missed Kung Fu Panda in theaters, Angie plays the voice of Tigress, “the strongest and the boldest of the Kung Fu masters,” in a role that allowed her to reunite with her hilarious Shark Tale co-star Jack Black. If her kids’ opinions are anything to go by, Angie’s brood adores the flick: “I think it’s a great film, and it’s brought a lot of joy to children – and to my children, absolutely. My kids love it. They’re very very proud, they’ve got mom [Tigress] dolls.” Perhaps Angie should let her kids manage her career, full of family friendly picks like this? According to sources, it seems that Angie has already let her eldest son Maddox take over the role of personal trainer. While showing his parents and kid siblings how to play his favorite Nintendo Wii games, Maddox introduced Angie to the Let’s Pilates! game and quickly got hooked. LOW PROFILE The always lovely Kate Bosworth was spotted at the BlackBerry Bold launch event held in Beverly Hills on October 30, looking radiant and stylish as always. Starting her look with a camel blazer (if you love this shade, check out Doucette Duvall's Audrey Jacket in Camel, it also comes in a lighter sand color called Snake) over a white top (check out Love Couture's Unchain My Heart Empire Waist Cami in Eggshell), the Bos then slipped into a nude pair of silk shorts (for a look that's more nighttime, take a look at Johnson's Silk Shorts with Cuff in Black Feather Print). The finishing touches to her outfit? Funky leather platforms, a delicate gold necklace, and a complementary clutch. Perfection! I have to admire Kate, because she does a pretty good job of keeping her private life out of the public eye, and we all know that it's not easy for most young starlets to do this (cough cough, Lindsay). LEIGHTON'S FAVORITE PRESENT Leighton Meester was spotted on the red carpet for the movie premiere for the comedy Sex Drive in NYC on October 12, looking saucy and sassy. For her red carpet moment, Nicky (and/or her stylist) picked a vibrant floral mini dress (check out similar options, like Plenty by Tracy Reese's Strapless Dress in Blaika, or Miguelina's vibrant Tyra Dress in Multi) with black Loubs and a skinny black waist belt (similar to Jack Rabbit Collection's Bullet Belt in Black). I personally think Nicky looks great here, and that the dress completely complements her figure and skin tone. PETA'S ATTACK ON MK&A Happy Halloween my dear CoutureCandy readers! I hope your holiday is spooky and safe. And now, to the gossip! Ashley Olsen strolled up to the Letterman studio for her appearance on The Late Show yesterday, October 30, looking polished in an all-black ensemble. Starting with a LBD (check out Beau Soleil's Beau Boat Dress in Noir) and a long black coat (like Holly's Button Knit Coat in Black), Ash finished off her look with long circle earrings (I'm sure Vevina Juji's Dark Chocolate Earrings in Silver are a little more wallet friendly than Ash's) and striking heels. Simple, sophisticated, and chic! Ashley was in NYC to promote her new book with Mary-Kate, "Influence," that I have yet to pick up (it's on my to-do list!). However, at a recent book signing at Barnes & Noble, an exciting day for many fans turned ugly. PETA protesters wore mocking troll masks and shouted at the twins outside of the event, and a spokesperson for PETA says, "People who still wear fur haven't woken up to the fact that a big, dead animal on your back makes you look like a troll. Compassionate fashionistas know that real beauty comes from the heart, something that the Trollsen Twins seem to lack, considering all the animals they've killed for their clothes." Ouch! KAT GETS STONED Keeping a watchful eye on little Suri, Katie Holmes left her New York apartment on Oct 27 with quite a handful. Dressed like the quintessential trendy mom, Kat wore a classic white button down – possibly borrowed from her husband’s closet – with faded skinny jeans (try Pierce Jeans’ Miami Tyler Straight Leg in Dolphin Grey with Zoa’s Long Cotton Shirt with Pleating in White tucked in) scrunched over some seriously fierce ankle boots. Wearing her ever present oversized sunnies (like Nour’s funky Moman in Street) Katie juggled a Curious George stuffed animal and a boxy black tote (similar to Julie K’s roomy Katherine Tote in Black Glaze), braving the chilly autumn weather with a long black sweater coat (check out Holly’s Button Knit Coat in Black). Suri, however, was wearing a dainty dress as usual, causing me to ponder, doesn’t that child ever get cold? Unless she’s wearing an invisible Scientology blanket that gives her immunity against the elements, it looks like mama needs to put her foot down and bundle her baby up! Last week, Katie’s cameo on “Eli Stone” finally aired and caught critics by surprise, giving a performance drawing comparisons to everyone from Rita Hayworth to Catwoman. Kat’s character Grace slinked around Eli’s dream in a skin tight leotard, long gloves and sexy heels, belting out “Hit Me With a Hot Note” complete with a full dance routine amid a smoky special effects. I would never have guessed someone as meek as Katie could have such a powerful voice – seriously, the girl can sing! After plenty of good reviews for “All My Sons,” there’s talk that Katie has the talent to move onto a Broadway musical next, seeing as she loves living in the Big Apple so much. A friend told InTouch, "She wants to continue the momentum and star in another play after this one. It's even transforming the way she dresses - she's beginning to unveil more fashionable outfits whenever she's out on her own. Compared to New York, she finds LA fake and unpleasant." WHOLE FOODS HOTTIE Staying true to her new vegan diet, Anne Hathaway spent quite a bit of time in the produce section of her local Whole Foods in Hollywood on Oct 24 – so much time that she caught an impromptu shower when the timed sprinklers came on to douse the veggies! Anne laughed it off and looked super slender in her casual black mini (kick it up a notch with Zoa’s versatile Short Sleeve Day and Night Jacket Dress in Black) with a long key pendant necklace (try Jessica Elliot’s Large Vermeil Antique Key Necklace in Vermeil) and funky gold printed ballet flats. Anne tossed her tan tote in the cart (if you like the style, try Linea Pelle’s Samantha Large Double Handle Bag in Dijon) while she browsed the health food mecca and kept her oversized sunnies (check out JeeVice’s diva-worthy Egoist in Black) anchored firmly to her face as she shopped – I wonder, isn’t it kind of hard to spot the best fruits and veggies when they all have a darkened tint? Now that the worst is behind her with that whole con-man-ex-beau fiasco, Anne can sleep comfortably at night knowing her ex will be safe behind bars for the next four years, a mediocre punishment for his misdeeds ranging from fraud and money laundering to outright conspiracy – not to mention forging a fake relationship with the Vatican! Anne can also find comfort that her latest sci-fi flick, Passengers, hit theaters on Friday. If you’re surprised you haven’t seen any previews, you’re not living under a rock – Sony scaled back the promotions on this film, and it’s playing on less than 200 screens across the country. I have to wonder, with a starring actress like Anne and all the hype after her Rachel Getting Married performance, why would the entertainment giant keep this one so hush-hush – any thoughts? "90210" actress Jessica Stroup was spotted at the launch of Kitson's 90210 Collection in Los Angeles last night, October 22, followed by a celebratory 22nd birthday dinner at raucous Mexican restaurant, El Compadre. I bet the margs were flowing! I'm diggin' Jessica's look here, it's very Rihanna-esque. For a similar 'fit, start with a black v-neck tee (like P.G.D. Style's Morgan V-Neck Tee in Black) under a cropped black jacket (Elizabeth Gillett Ltd's Lydia Velvet Jacket in Black is a cool option for the cropped trend) and pair with a vibrant mini skirt (Plenty by Tracy Reese's colorful Pocket Mini Skirt in Tantre has a supercool damask-inspired pattern). Stroup accessorized with open-toe leather booties, a chunky cutout cuff (like Jessica Elliot's Cut Out Bangle in Gold), and metallic midnight blue nailpolish. And FYI- it seems that she has definitely mastered her signature red carpet pose in the picture on the righ- knees bent, one leg out a bit farther than the other, hands in pockets, shoulder slant, and seductive gaze. Work it out JS! While Jessica is undoubtedly enjoying the success of her CW show, she is also speaking out being the sister of character David Silver (originally played by Brian Austin Green). Jess says, "There's a mention of Mel in one of the scripts. I met Brian Austin Green for the first time in a Coffee Bean. I saw him, and I thought, I have to talk to him. He thought I was a fan. END OF AN ERA Paying homage to the show that propelled her to fame way back when Destiny’s Child was virtually unknown, Beyoncé Knowles made an appearance on MTV’s TRL in Times Square on Oct 14. Clad in a voluptuous Etro ‘fit, B put her look together with a sexy strapless mini dress with an intricately beaded skirt (try Zoa’s Ruffle Tunic in Black or Tricia Fix’s Marilyn Top in Black for similar varieties), shiny black leggings (like Laura Dahl’s Longfellows Leggings in Noir) and some seriously fierce black python boots. Flaunting what appear to be fresh extensions swept into a puffed up half ‘do, Beyoncé kept her look sleek and simple, opting for black nail polish as her only accessory. Though she’s stopped by the show many times before, this week was B’s last promotional appearance, as the epic teenie bopper show will be cancelled in November after a decade of hits. B returned to the show to garner interest for her two singles off her new album that dropped last week, “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies.” B told the crowd on Tuesday, "I can remember being 16 or 17 when they asked us to be on the show, and it was our big moment," she recalled, referring to her debut appearance with her Destiny’s Child bandmates. B will have her chance to officially say goodbye next month, as she has already committed to performing on the final taping, Total Finale Live, on November 16. DESIGNS BY HOLMES Katie Holmes nails 40’s glam effortlessly at the opening night after party for the cast of All My Sons in NYC, Oct 16. When I first saw these photos, I thought she must still be in costume – but no, this is an original design by Mrs. Cruise herself. Katie wore a vintage black lace top under a white strapless jumpsuit with voluminous harem legs (check out Ecoganik’s High Waisted Jumpsuit in Black or Walter’s Vintage Lace Short Sleeve Top in Black to get the look), paired with strappy black heels – how do you feel about the flashback look, does it work for her? I think with the bold red lipstick, boyish coif and overall glammed up appearance, Kat pulls it off to a tee, with the matching gold necklace and bracelet (try Kimberly Faith’s Patchwork Necklace in Gold/Silver with Danielle Stevens’ Alligator Bangle in Gold) and shiny black folded clutch (see Julie K’s Sasha Clutch in Black Glaze) sealing the deal. Très chic! Since moving to the Big Apple, Katie has been under constant scrutiny for her fashion choices (and mishaps), but I think her style has been continually improving since the move. Gone are the drab ballet flats, baggy jeans and mousy hair – in with the chic cropped ‘do, some fierce boots and to-die-for handbags. It looks like Joey Potter has finally retired and it has done her well! Though the opening night reviews of All My Sons weren’t exactly stellar, ticket sales have been through the roof, with the play quickly becoming the highest grossing show on Broadway, even before its official debut. Even pal Victoria Beckham extended her support, telling the Daily Star: “We can't wait to come and support Katie... Her husband Tom Cruise says she's amazing, the reviews have been amazing. Okay, Misch, we get it. You're boho-chic! Except, I don't really know about the chic part. She always looks like she's trying just a bit too hard to be "fashion forward." For an outfit that's similar to Barton's (but a lot cuter), start with Tricia Fix's Goddess Cocktail Dress in Black and pair with a cool coat, like Amberlynn's Victoria Coat in Plum. Finish off your look with maybe a pair of plum Wolford tights to complement the jacket, and a pair of black ankle booties, and voila! Tres cute. Just try and avoid the played-out headband. As I'm sure you've heard, Mischa has been speaking out about how she doesn't think stylista Victoria Beckham has that great a sense of style. She says, "Posh doesn't strike me as particularly stylish. I don't think she's a good example of British style at all. I don't dress for anybody else, and I think the reason people like my style is that I do my own thing." Hmmm.. the thing is, I feel like Mischa thinks she's doing her own thing, but really it's just like a bargain carbon copy of Nicole Richie's, just with uglier clothes. SCARY STALKERS Vanessa Hudgens was spotted strolling around Los Angeles yesterday, October 16, before the big premiere of High School Musical 3 which she attended with her BF, Zac Efron. For her casual yet still impeccably put together daytime look, Vanessa started with a white frock (check out Gold Hawk's Floral Eyelet Dress in White, or Kushcush's Wonder Mini Dress in White for similar looks) and paired with exotic heels and a long gold necklace (similar to Mickey Lynn Designs' Sweet Dreams Gold Accent Necklace). Hudgens finished off her outfit with a long clutch (like Antoinette Lee Designs' Lua Python Embossed Clutch in White Sand) and an armful of gold bangles (I'm loving Accessories & Beyond's adorable 15 Hearts Bracelet in Gold). Very glam, V! While I'm sure Vanessa never expected the HSM phenomenon to get as big as it has, she is speaking out about how scary it is to have people SO obsessed with the movie. She says, "It has become crazy, just the fact that we have people following us around. We're girls with 40-year-old guys chasing us [and] stalking us all day," Hudgens said. "It's really weird. THE REUNION Lauren Conrad was spotted grabbing a bite to eat at Katsuya Hollywood on October 15, in an ensemble that I'm trying to wrap my mind around. Part of me likes it, but the other part is thinking, "what's goin' on, girl??" Separately, I like the studded Louboutins and the studded bag (for a similar chain bag, check out Julie K Handbags' Gigi Mini Bag in Azure), but together, I think the studs just clash and don't work well together. Then, Lauren paired a very Blair Waldorf-esque headband with a white top (similar to 3J Workshop Sara Top in White Metallic) and black leggings (like Laura Dahl's Tiny Dancers Leggings in Black), and I think the top is just a tad bit too short with the leggings. In theory, this outfit was a good one, but I think there was just something off in the execution. Oh well, you can't win 'em all, and at least Lauren wasn't wearing another plain jersey dress from her collection! While some of you may have heard about Lauren and frenemy Heidi Montag's reunion at STK, former "Hills" castmember Brian Droulet is speaking out, and said, "I know for a fact Lauren will never really become friends with Heidi again, because Lauren is a genuine, awesome person. DECLARING HERSELF She may be relatively new to the Hollywood scene, but youngster Hayden Panettiere sure knows how to get glammed up for a soiree! The Heroes cheerleader was spotted at Declare Yourself’s Last Call Party on Sept 24, looking pretty damn sexy in an all black ensemble. Wearing an embellished cami with a sequined wing-sleeved top over it (check out the similar neckline of Black Halo’s Boat Neck Jersey Dress in Black), HP rocked it in her sultry black skinnies (see Denim of Virtue’s Slim Peeptoe Jean in Black) and strappy black heels. Adding elegant gold hoop earrings (try Lana’s Solar Earrings in Gold) and a gold python clutch (check out Marnie Rock’s Large Gold Python Clutch in Gold), HP kept it classy with her French manicured digits and kohl rimmed eyes, looking all around fabulous in my opinion! Because this is the first time she gets to cast a ballot in an election, Hayden is taking the race to the White House very seriously. Earlier this month she fueled the fire started by Paris Hilton’s fake presidential bid and recorded a Funny or Die video bashing McCain, dropping enough f-bombs to make even me blush! The short vid starts off with Hayden saying, "I know I'm hot enough to hold your attention for at least 30 seconds," escalates to her promoting cigarette smoking, not wearing your seatbelt, and all the reasons you should vote for McCain, ending her rant with "Nobody f***’s with John McCain!" Yikes! Definitely captured my attention, but I’m left feeling a little disturbed! Is anyone else ready for this election – and the negativity surrounding it – to be over with? LUCKY NUMBER 9 Looking perky as always, Kate Hudson was spotted sharing a laugh with Fergie while leaving a London eatery on Oct 1. Stepping up the classy factor for dinner with a few of her castmates from the musical-turned-movie, Nine, Kate braced the London cold in her camel coat with oversized lapels (see Doucette Duvall’s Audrey Jacket in Camel), wearing a draped cowl neck top underneath (try Zoa’s Scoop Neck Racer Back Top in Deep Silver) and classic black skinny pants (like Hudson’s New Stella Skinny Poplin Jean in Black). Rather than stick with the basics, Kate added a chunky blue necklace (try Marnie Rock’s colorful Multi Colored Agate with Knots Neckace in Gold) and a flashy dome ring (check out Rachel Leigh’s Crystal Pave Domed Ring in Gold), carrying a black fold-over clutch (similar to Lesa Wallace’s Patent Leather No Baggage Bag in Black) while teetering on sexy studded t-strap heels. It’s a notch dressier than her usual style and I can’t say I dislike that she tried to work a little color into her mostly black ‘fit – any thoughts? All in all, very appropriate for a dinner date with legends including Sophia Loren, Judi Dench and Marion Cottillard.
